Foreword is built so that the books you upload never leave your device. This page explains what is stored and why.
We store your account (name, email, sessions) and, per book, its title, author, language, a fingerprint of the file, ranked words with short example snippets, the study cards generated from them, and your study history. We never store the uploaded file or the full text of the book.
Ranked words and snippets are sent to an AI provider only to write translations, explanations and examples. Study history is used to compute your progress and prioritise cards.
Hosting and database, Google Sign-In, Google Gemini for card text, and fal.ai for optional teaching clips.
You can edit or delete any card, export a book's vocabulary as CSV, and delete a book together with everything stored for it.
